The Correct Way to Pronounce CREAG
Setting the record straight With Osmo
Well, here it is, the first official CREAG blog. If you've made it to this page, I'm sure you're wondering, "what's this CREAG thing all about?" We are here to answer your questions and make a few things clear. We aren't going to divulge everything but assure you there is a method to our madness. So let's get started, shall we?
I SAID IT WAS PRONOUNCED CREEEEEG!
First question. I'm assuming you knew this was on the list. Why is everything so damn expensive?
Hmm, there are a bunch of variables here that could take a while, but I'll trim it down a bit. I will say with conviction that we deliver a high-quality product that utilizes only the best materials. Crafting apparel at this standard allocates an exuberant amount of time to design, manufacturing, and product testing. This additional cost is to ensure our customers are getting the absolute best products possible.
It all seemed so easy when it was nothing more than a concept, but it has been an overwhelming feat to get one garment sewn here, let alone eight. All of our technical pieces are crafted in one of the very few places that have the skilled sewers to do so. The bottom line, we chose a more difficult road, but we will continue to do what we can to keep things on this side of the pond.
I like the direction you are heading with branding, but your message can be a bit confusing at times. You use a lot of incredible imagery, and then you throw shots like this into the mix. What is the message you are trying to get across?
HaHa! The fact that you are asking this question is an excellent sign. The answer is simple; we are forging our own path in the outdoor industry since branding has become repetitious and outdated. The focus has been solely on elite athletes, and while that makes for exciting content, it doesn't represent the industry as a whole. Don't get me wrong this is an essential element, but how does the newbie or weekend warrior relate to those scenarios? They can't.
We want content that is relatable to everyone. Our mantra is: "Find something which brings you purpose in life. Be competitive with yourself. Push the limits of your ability. Most importantly, never take life too seriously." So, in a nutshell, we are taking this endeavor very seriously without being too serious. Make sense?
What is the HERD?
Well, I saw this one coming from a mile away. Although there are many different interpretations of what herd means, we define it as a group of like-minded individuals who share a similar passion for life. The outdoor industry is a perfect example where people tend to migrate towards a particular activity. In this case, Mac, found his tribe in climbing and hasn't looked back since. Everyone was after the same thing, the top! He once said that the biggest obstacle you face in climbing is fear. Sometimes the only thing that can wipe it away is the group of people screaming and yelling for you to push through it. It's pretty cool if you think about it. Issues like sex, race, religion, etc. were never part of the equation. What a great mindset to apply to all aspects of our lives, right?
As for the name, although it was right in front of his face, he didn't see it. The name came from a good friend, and we have run with it ever since.
So, I have noticed you use a lot of climbing imagery on your website and social media. Are you a climbing-specific brand?
If you want it to be, then yes. The facts are that we initially set out with climbing-specific clothing in mind. However, as we began working with designs, we realized that our apparel is very versatile. Our jacket is used more for backcountry skiing, trail running, and mountain biking than anything else. We understood the dynamic of the fabrics but didn't discover their full potential until we started testing. CREAG is Mountain Modern Apparel plain and simple. We're a new brand with a fresh perspective and a new direction. We feel we have something for everyone, and the feedback has shown that to be true.
Although you may not agree with all of our light-hearted shenanigans, we are a high-quality apparel company. We have a team of amazing like-minded people striving to change the way we see the world. We should tackle life's challenges in CREAG clothing because, why the hell not!
